Training & Development
The third priority identified in OPEN’s Strategic Plan 2005-2007 was "to strengthen the capacity of our member groups".
The following outlines some of the work we are doing to progress this aim.
The Future is OPEN
The Future is OPEN (TFIO) is an exciting and unique training and development programme created by lone parents for lone parents.
The programme was developed to meet the specific needs of our member groups across the country.
Time and time again OPEN member groups highlight the many challenges they face, particularly in relation to:
- Supporting the initial stages of the groups’ development
- Enhancing the capacity of locally based groups to influence policy at local and national level
- And the on-going challenge of sustainability of community development in today’s environment, particularly in relation to securing resources and building leadership
OPEN member groups wanted a training and development programme to address these challenges and enhance their ability to meet the needs of lone parents living in their communities - a tall order, but with the drive and commitment of our Board, our members, and friends of OPEN, this has been achieved through the development of The Future Is OPEN (TFIO).
TFIO currently comprises 8 strands; however it is anticipated that the programme will evolve as the needs of our member groups change.
TFIO currently covers the following areas:
- Leadership
- Parents in Education
- Mentoring Programme
- Your Vote, Your Voice
- Group Kit and SMART Kit
- Capacity Building
- Support
