38% of households in need of social housing are one parent families
Key figures from the 2005 Housing Need Assesment:
There were 43,684 households in need of social housing in 2005 assessment, a fall of 9.8% overall.
One parent families make up 38% (16,795) of all housholds on the waiting list.
69% of one parent families contained only one child; this represents 26% of all households on the waiting list.
65% of one parent families were living in private rented accommodation, with a further 23% living with either their own parents or with relatives.
- 32% of one parent families had been waiting for up to 12 months at the time of the assessment
- 40% were on the list for between 1 and 3 years
- 23% were on the list for 3 to 7 years
- 3% were on the list for more than 7 years
65% of one parent families had incomes of less than €10,000.
