The Needs of Lone Parents - Seminar 25th September 2008
A national seminar on Activation and Integrated Approaches to Lone Parent Needs was held on 25th September 2008 in Dublin. The seminar was organised by Pobal in association with the Family Support Agency and OPEN to inform the development of future strategies to address the social exclusion of one parent families.
The seminar was targeted at implementing bodies - Partnerships, Family Resource Centres, Community Development Projects and policy makers/influencers - key departments, agencies and NG0s. The purpose of the seminar was to inform the development of more effective strategies and models of engagement to meet the complex needs of lone parents in the context of new policy measures and a new social inclusion programme.

Census 2006
In 2006 the Census recorded 3,071 lone parent households in Limerick City; 87% were lone mothers, with 13% lone fathers.

One parent families made up 12% of all households in Limerick.
The Census does not provide a figure for the number of one parent families in the county, but nationally, Census data shows that over 10% of all one parent families live in multi-family households, for example, they live with their own parents.. more information
