In 2006 the Census recorded 4,419 lone parent households in Mayo; 84% were lone mothers, with 16% lone fathers.
One parent families made up 10% of all households in Mayo.

The Census does not provide a figure for the number of one parent families in the county, but nationally, Census data shows that over 10% of all one parent families live in multi-family households, for example, they live with their own parents.. more information

In 2005 there were 240 one parent families on the housing list in Co. Mayo.
Lone parents made up 31% of the total households on the waiting list.

Ballina Town Council
In 2005 there were 80 one parent families on the housing list in Ballina.
Lone parents made up 34% of the total households on the waiting list.

Castlebar Town Council
In 2005 there were 46 one parent families on the housing list in Castlebar.
Lone parents made up 30% of the total households on the waiting list.

In 2005 there were 49 one parent families on the housing list in Westport.
Lone parents made up 37% of the total households on the waiting list.
