Social Welfare Stats

In 2009 there were just over 90,000 lone parents in receipt of the One-Parent Family Payment¹:

98% of recipients are women

1.7% are under 20 years of age, 35% are between 20-29 years old, and 37% are between 30-39.

approximately 60% are employed

half of all recipients live in Dublin, Cork and Limerick (33%, 10%, and 4% respectively)

16,042 lone parents dependent on Social Welfare also relied on Rent Supplement to meet their rental costs, representing almost a fifth (17%) of all Rent Supplement claimants.
